The L6480 device, realized in analog mixedsignal technology, is an advanced fully integratedsolution suitable for driving two-phase bipolarstepper motors with microstepping.
It integrates a dual full bridge gate driver forN-channel MOSFET power stages withembedded non dissipative overcurrent protection.Thanks to a unique voltage mode driving modewhich compensates for BEMF, bus voltage andmotor winding variations,the microstepping ofa true 1/128-step resolution is achieved. Thedigital control core can generate user definedmotion profiles with acceleration, deceleration, speed or target position easily programmedthrough a dedicated register set. All applicationcommands and data registers, including thoseused to set analog values (i.e. current protectiontrip point, deadtime, PWM frequency, etc.) aresent through a standard 5-Mbit/s SPI. A very richset of protections (thermal, low bus voltage,overcurrent and motor stall) makes the L6480device“bullet proof”, as required by the mostdemanding motor control applications.
